Go see arsoneffect's comment to tobuscus, in which he basically says that your video (and everyone else's) sucks. Leave him a nice comment if you get a chance.
This one was confusing, but after watching it a few ties, I fully understood it. (i know almost nothing about noir)
Nothing is wasted...though I will admit it took me a few times to see that the shot with the light and the wall and why it was so important that in the beginning there's a dark figured man beneath it and in the end he's gone...which plays into why he's the 'bad guy'. It's a shame it is so difficult to see, though, it could really have been much stronger otherwise.
I do like the noir style, but in my opinion you took it a bit far. There are several shots where nothing happens, or if it does happen it's just too dark to see.
The images weren't clear enough to be able to tell the story without dialogue. Perhaps you have this in better resolution?
This really is my favorite video, shawncaple. But since I have an entry to the contest as well (uploaded, still pending for post) I will remain neutral and not to vote. Excellent execution, very thought out lighting, easy to follow plot. My only critique would be a few lose crop on editing, and the sound quality was slightly low (but that might be a conversion problem by the official). Once again, fantastic job!!!
